Portland Oregon Holistic Nutritionist

Hi! My name is Tami Parker. A Pacific Northwestener who loves to talk to plants and animals, and yes I do love to wear the PNW fashion of flannel.

Like many others, I have experienced health challenges that left me feeling miserable. During childhood, I struggled with eczema, digestion issues, and depression. Once I hit puberty, my hormones stepped in and added another layer of challenges. Although I followed conventional medical approaches to resolve my health issues, I still struggled.

I tend to be a critical thinker, thinking outside of the box, and can see connections to things that don’t seem obvious. These traits led me down different paths to hopefully find solutions for my health, some worked, and some were huge learning lessons (some may say they were health disasters.)
It took me some time to accept that I was not like everyone and that the one size fits all model was not working. Most of the time I am a humble person (after I get over myself and out of my defensive stubborn ego) and my experience in trying to fit into pre-packaged dietary plans, health routines, and fitness programs was not providing me the answers and results that I was determined I would have.

My experience from exploring different health and wellness paths led me to the realization that I was missing an important piece, the piece that is the foundation of health—NUTRITION!

I returned to school (in my late 40s) to study Nutrition Science at the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM). This is where I began to find the connections to how nutrition can be medicine for some and not others, I learned what foods are better suited for health conditions, and about behavioral patterns that can block our ability to make healthy choices, and ultimately holistically healthy- mind, body, and spirit.

While on this educational and life-changing journey, I noticed other changes happening with my body and my health. These changes came from the shifting or transitioning of hormones due to perimenopause (or as I like to call it -Puberty 2.0!). I would like to say that I learned all about Perimenopause and menopause in school, but sadly that didn’t happen. I discovered there is little to no education provided to Nutritionists (or other health practitioners) on how to support women during this stage of life. To say that this aggravated me is an understatement. I turned my aggravation into motivation and started my self-study of women’s midlife health with an emphasis on perimenopause.  I feel I have now become a soap box warrior (especially when it comes to women’s rights, justice, health, and equality).

I now provide a place where women can ask the questions “Is this perimenopause?” and “Will I ever feel normal again?” and get the information they need to help them understand the changes that are happening in their body and mind during midlife and perimenopause.

This is where I can help women feel better by addressing the root causes behind how they feel. Helping them see and explore the behaviors that are holding them back.

If you are ready to explore perimenopause and learn how to work with the transformation your body is undergoing with less discomfort and more ease, click the button and schedule a free Discovery call!

All the paths I have taken have brought me here, just as all the paths you have taken have brought you here too. And this is where we come together.

Through holistic personalized nutrition, I can help you find healthy solutions that fit your unique needs, to get you Planted in Health.

Integrity!

These are some of the qualities that are essential to how I practice as a health professional

  • Authenticity- having self-knowledge, being honest about who you are in this moment and who you want to become.

  • Growth - responsibility, and accountability to keep changing, learning, and growing

  • Autonomy - creating a space of trust where people feel safe to make hard choices that will change their lives and lead them to their best selves.

  • Compassionate- engaging in patience, flexibility, acceptance, expressing gratitude for others, feeling and acting for the concern of others.

These are just some of the qualities that I find essential in my practice and how I work with my clients. For me, these are the qualities that are associated with a single word—Integrity.

My Approach

Business casual. This is my approach to my practice. As a health professional, it is important to maintain business professionalism. However, I feel most of us are more open to sharing our true selves when we are in a more casual environment that is without judgment and is comfortable to be in.

Weight Neutral

To be upfront, I do not do weight loss-focused diets. Weight is a byproduct, it is an issue, but it isn’t THE issue. I follow the idea of health comes in many sizes and shapes. I approach weight from a different perspective, a perspective that does not include fatphobia or fat bias.

Body Positive

ALL bodies are beautiful. My intention is to create an environment where clients can explore all the wonderful aspects of their bodies and create a healthy relationship with their bodies. All of my clients will find a safe space during our sessions to share their feelings about their bodies.
